Segall and Martin successfully represent Alabama legislature in line item veto dispute with governor
Bobby Segall and David Martin successfully represented the Joint Fiscal Committee of the Alabama Legislature and several Democratic Legislators in a dispute with Governor Bob Riley over his use of the line item veto to delete a significant provision from the general fund budget. The case twice went to the Alabama Supreme Court, and both times the Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of the Joint Fiscal Committee and the Democratic Legislators.
The Supreme Court's decision placed important limits on the Governor's line item veto power and represents a significant decision regarding the Constitution's separation of powers.
