Biography

Lee has over 40 years of experience defending all types of civil claims – malpractice, commercial and complex actions – in both federal and state courts. He is a seasoned, active litigator who is sought out by many in “bet-your-company” cases.

Lee grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, graduating high school at Montgomery Academy. He attended college at the University of Alabama and matriculated to the University of Alabama School of Law. Active in both undergraduate and law school, Lee was president of his undergraduate fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and in law school was on the winning Moot Team, as well as being named the Outstanding Oral Advocate for Moot Court competition. He also was on the Law School's National Trial Court Team. Following graduation, he clerked with Judge Truman M. Hobbs, Sr., United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.

After his clerkship, Lee joined Copeland, Franco, Screws & Gill, where his father had been one of the firm's founders. His current practice is almost entirely litigation. Lee handles a wide variety of legal matters, both corporate and individual. His litigation practice includes products liability, malpractice and a host of general commercial claims. He is active in local and state level bar activities, having served as President of the Montgomery County Bar Association and as President of the Alabama State Bar.

He has served on numerous boards and committees, both at the local and state bar levels. He has served on over two dozen election committees for local and statewide judges.

Lee also has an active mediation practice, mediating 75 to 100 cases per year. Known as the “Settlement Whisperer,” he generally mediates cases that are complex and highly disputed.  He also mediates cases in many southern states.

Lee has volunteered his time for many charitable groups in Montgomery, including as Past President of the Board of Goodwill of Montgomery, Past President of Montgomery Hospice and Past President for Red Cross of Central Alabama.

Lee is married to the former Jessica Crenshaw of Birmingham, Alabama. They have two boys, Hall and Albert, and one spoiled granddaughter.

Lee maintains an office in Montgomery, AL and Birmingham, AL.
